Hailing from the spirited streets of Youngstown, Ohio, Vernett Seay Jr., affectionately known as Vern, emerged as a musical prodigy from an early age. Born and raised on the Southside, Vern's journey into the world of music ignited at the tender age of 13, a spark that would soon blaze into a resplendent career adorned with accolades.
Vern's musical odyssey began with a piano in his aunt's living room, where his youthful fervor found its outlet. A guitar soon joined the ensemble, a gift that sparked an unwavering commitment to perfecting his craft. Guided by lessons and fueled by an insatiable passion, Vern's relentless practice laid the foundation for his future triumphs.
As the years progressed, Vern ventured to Chicago, where he embarked on a decade-long partnership with Ludwig/Musser Industries. Here, he skillfully crafted Marimbas, xylophones, church chimes, and orchestra bells, honing his talents into an art form. His dedication caught the attention of the musical world when he personally created Marimbas for the legendary American vibraphonist, Lionel Hampton. For six transformative years, Vern's hands fashioned instruments that harmonized with Hampton's mesmerizing melodies, solidifying his reputation as a master artisan.
Yet Vern's journey didn't stop at crafting instruments; it extended onto the stage.
He shared his musical prowess as an opening act for acclaimed artists like Blood Stone, Ohio Players, War, and Grover Washington. Each performance was a testament to Vern's ability to captivate audiences and set the stage ablaze with his magnetic energy.
Vern's life story beautifully illustrates the fusion of craftsmanship and musical artistry.
